Here are some terms that’ll help get you acquainted with the World of POUND!
3D Workout: We’ve coined this term to refer to working out all planes, angles, sides and dimensions of the body. (Clever, right?) POUND is the ultimate form of proprioceptive training — for noticeable improvements in symmetry, movement intelligence, injury prevention and, of course, overall health and weight loss! Auditory Reinforcement: This refers to your body’s ability to adjust its movement quality by listening to the sound of your own exertion.
Backstage Pass: A Backstage Pass is our online video subscription. With the Backstage Pass, you can take POUND classes online. Your Backstage Pass includes Ripstix at no additional charge and gives you access to new, full-length POUND workouts every week! Stream POUND to your favorite device whenever you feel like getting your sweat on, and supplement your workouts with extra POUND moves, called PoundDowns.
Fat-Burning Cardio: Cardio exercise of moderate intensity that’s within the "conversation zone,” meaning you’re not pushing too hard and can still talk.
Interval Training: This type of training alternates between high intensity (the glycogen-burning, a.k.a. carb-burning work) and lower intensity (read: fat-burning) exercise.
Isometric Movements: A specific form of resistance exercise in which one's muscles are used in opposition with other muscle groups (think: holding a pose), thus forcing all muscle groups to work in unison to complete the action.
Movement Intelligence: This type of intelligence refers to the number of “possibilities” you’ve got in your body’s toolbox to overcome a physical obstacle (e.g., flexibility, power, spatial awareness, balance, alignment, strength). Poundtrack: A Poundtrack is a 12-song, 45-minute sequence built from choreographed tracks.
Proprioception: The body's ability to sense spatial location, which is greatly improved when you POUND. With proprioception, you know you can fit through a doorway or sense the distance between you and your chair before you sit down.
Resistance Training: This type of exercise refers to any training that uses a resistance to the force of muscular contraction.
Ripstix™: What would a drumming workout be without drumsticks? We’ve invented unique, lightly weighted exercise drumsticks that have been specially designed to get you ripped — hence the name: Ripstix™! These neon green drumsticks are slightly shorter and twice the weight of a standard drumstick, thus altering the physics of your movements to get you torching calories! Sesh: POUND Posse-speak for “session,” as in, “Wow! That was a totally rockin’ POUND sesh!”
Strategic Distraction: Most workouts focus on an overt execution of difficult moves. Instead of that, we've engineered POUND to deliver challenging and effective moves, but we've shifted your focus to music and beat. This intentional shift is called Strategic Distraction. Paying attention to the music and keeping time forces you to work way harder and accurately than you could if you were present in the pain of counting reps.
